The Value of a Smile

By Catherine M. Fascilla, D.D.S.

Spring is in the air again and the blue sky, warm weather and budding trees and flowers just make me want to smile. And smiling reminds me of this quote…

“It costs nothing, but creates much good.

It enriches those who receive it without impoverishing those
who give it away.

It happens in a flash but the memory of it can last forever.

No one is so rich that he can get along without it.

No one is too poor to feel rich when receiving it.

It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friends.

It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen for it is something of no earthly good to anybody until it is given away willingly.”

These words were presented to me many years ago at a dental lecture and a few times since then. They have always inspired me. I don’t know to whom I should give credit. I share this quote with you in hopes that you will appreciate it and perhaps it might prompt you to freely share your smile with others! It will make you feel good and possibly make someone else’s day.
